Thoughts: Looks like we are one step closer to the iRobot reality. I get why Hollywood portrays AI as this man made machine that ultimately turns against us. It sells movie tickets. I’d like to take a moment to think about the good that these types of ‘humanoid robots’ can provide us as a society. I do think this will be one of the greatest divisive topics of our time and yes, jobs will be lost. But let’s think about the invention of the motor car and the industry that it disrupted. Within 20 years of the introduction of the automobile, the horse drawn carriage economy was completely obsolete. Think about the blacksmiths who made the horse shoes, the leather maker who provided sattels and all of the other surrounding businesses that were collateral damage. History is riddled with examples of technological advancements disrupting the status quo. We can either get on board and see how we can use it to better our lives or fight it and be left behind.

  • NVIDIA has achieved a major advancement in robotics with its Generalist Embodied Agent Research (GEAR) team, focused on creating versatile humanoid robots. Central to this progress is the Hover controller—a universal system that allows robots to perform a wide range of tasks with human-like intuition. This innovation tackles a core challenge in traditional robotics, where separate control systems are often required for different tasks, leading to inefficiencies.
