• Until recently, I never spent much time thinking about what happens with the time we spend ‘unconscious’. We spend about a third of our lives sleeping and very little is known about what actually happens with our minds and our thoughts. There are some schools of though out there that suggest we have 2 brains, the conscious and the unconscious mind. Psychiatrist and author, Joseph Murphy, suggests we can tap into this subconscious mind and create opportunities in our conscious lives. One of the areas of his research is around the idea of Autosuggestion. If we repeat something consistently to our conscious brain, we can essentially communicate with our subconscious mind. Everything around us works on a level of vibration, so saying things out loud consistently, such as positive affirmations, is a way of communicating with our subconscious mind. I like the story below because it illustrates one of the things that our bodies naturally do if we create a habit by consistently doing the same thing over and over again such as having lunch at noon everyday. Take a read and let me know your conscious thoughts. 😉

Illustrations of autosuggestion: Autosuggestion means suggesting something definite and specific to oneself. Herbert Parkyn, in his excellent manual of autosuggestion,* records the following incident. It has its amusing side, so that one remembers it. “A New York visitor in Chicago looks at his watch, which is set an hour ahead of Chicago time, and tells a Chicago friend that it is twelve o’clock. The Chicago friend, not considering the difference in time between Chicago and New York, tells the New Yorker that he is hungry and that he must go to lunch.”
